1997, it obviously was a great year for the sneaker culture — Nike Air Max 97 was born. Futuristic bullet trains of Japan were the inspiration for Christian Tresser, designer of the Air Max 97. This was Nike’s first shoe with a full-length air — the new Total Air unit. It also was the first Air Max sneakers with a hidden lacing system.
